Tuition Scholarship Contest

The Dollar Bank Foundation works to enhance the well-being and foster the economic development of the communities in which we work and live. Each year, the Dollar Bank Foundation gives $2 million in aid to qualifying 501(c)(3) nonprofits in the Greater Pittsburgh area, Greater Cleveland area and the Greater Hampton Roads area.

The Dollar Bank Foundation is offering college scholarships worth $10,000 over four years ($2,500 per year) to one student in each of Dollar Bank’s markets (three total).


Step One: Register


Step Two: Essay Prompt

Answer the prompt below. The essay must be typed in English and follow MLA format (Times New Roman font, 12-point font size, double-spaced), contain no fewer than 1,000 words and be the original work of the submitting student. You must answer all parts of the question to be eligible. 

What would you do within your community to foster its growth and development? How would you work with a financial institution to achieve this?

Possible things to consider in forming your essay:

  • How can financial institutions better serve your community?
  • What makes small communities thrive?
  • What is the social impact of financial institutions on communities? 
  • Thinking about the next generation of leaders, what is their responsibility to your community?


Step Three: Submission

You must submit the completed essay via email to PublicAffairs@dollarbank.com by 5 PM ET on May 15, 2024. The essay must be sent attached as a Microsoft Word document (.doc or .docx) or as a PDF file; any essay sent in the body of the email will automatically be disqualified.
