Dollar Bank’s Free Homebuying Workshop Helps First-time Homebuyers Break the Rent Cycle

May 22, 2024 – Hampton Roads, VA:  Dollar Bank’s annual home buying workshop, The Way Home, returns to Hampton Roads, (Virginia) on June 1, 2024. The workshop is available to individuals who want to learn how to stop renting and start owning or are looking for guidance to improve their financial situation towards homeownership.

During the “Way Home” Workshop individuals will learn more about Dollar Bank’s Matched Savings Program, ways to save, and details about the mortgage process. Highlights also include testimonials from new homeowners who broke the rent cycle with the help of Dollar Bank’s program.

The Way Home is just one part of Dollar Bank's comprehensive effort to help would-be borrowers with credit-building needs. Workshop attendees will be encouraged to work with Dollar Bank counselors beyond attending The Way Home Workshop.

James Hinton, Jr. Vice President of Community Development, works closely with participants of Dollar Bank’s Homeownership Program. “Buying a home can be an overwhelming experience for anyone, especially if they are not confident in their financial situation. The FREE homeownership credit counseling we provide helps prepare individuals for homeownership,” Hinton said. Assistance includes one-on-one credit restoration counseling sessions, and the potential for qualified borrowers to participate in the Dollar Bank Matched Savings program which offers up to $5,000 in down payment and closing cost assistance.

Details: The Way Home Homebuying Workshop in Hampton Roads, Virginia, will begin at 9:30 AM on June 1, 2024, at the Webb Center in the Hampton / Newport News Room on the campus of Old Dominion University with guest speaker Barbara Hamm Lee, Executive Producer and Host of Another View on WHRO-FM.
