Dollar Bank’s Free Mortgage Workshop Celebrates 25th Year

Program helps first-time homebuyers break the rent cycle

May 1, 2024 – Pittsburgh, PA:  Dollar Bank’s annual mortgage home buying workshop, The Way Home, returns to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on May 11, 2024. Celebrating its 25th year, the workshop is available to community members who want to learn how to stop renting and start owning or are looking for guidance to improve their financial situation. This free program, which began as a workshop for single mothers in 1999, has hosted over 5,000 attendees.

The Way Home Homebuying Workshop is an educational experience for attendees and provides valuable lessons about the power of credit and credit counseling services, ways to save and details about the mortgage process. Highlights also include testimonials from new homeowners who broke the rent cycle with the help of Dollar Bank’s program.

The Way Home is just one part of Dollar Bank's comprehensive effort to help would-be borrowers with credit-building needs. Attendees will be encouraged to continue working with Dollar Bank counselors beyond attending the workshop. Kelly Bowman and Susan Kelly, both Community Development Credit Counselors, work closely with participants of Dollar Bank’s Homeownership Program. “Buying a home can be an overwhelming experience for anyone, especially if they are not confident in their financial situation. The training and credit counseling we provide creates a safety net resulting in homebuyers who are prepared for homeownership,” Bowman said.

Kelly added, "Our educational classes, private credit restoration counseling sessions, special savings programs, down payment assistance and other informational group sessions help prepare first-time homebuyers for their journey into homeownership."

Details: The Way Home Homebuying Workshop in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania will begin at 9:00 AM on May 11, 2024, at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center with guest speaker Lynne Hayes Freeland, Talk Show Host. Free childcare will be provided. Register at dollar.bank/thewayhome or by calling 1-800-345-3655.
