Dollar Bank’s Free Homeownership Workshop Returns — The Way Home Starts Here
Dollar Bank is excited to announce the return of The Way Home Homebuying Workshop on Saturday, May 30 at Old Dominion University’s Webb Center. This free, expert-led event provides hands-on guidance for navigating the homebuying process. The workshop is tailored for a broad range of participants including lifelong renters, aspiring first-generation homebuyers and anyone seeking reliable access to homeownership resources and financial knowledge.
Originally created in 1999 to support single mothers, The Way Home has grown into a welcoming community event that demystifies critical aspects of buying a home, from credit improvement and budgeting to selecting the right mortgage product.
“Our goal is to empower all those who are ready to take the next step toward homeownership,” said Vice President of Community Development, James Hinton, Jr. “Every homebuyer’s journey is unique. We help participants cut through the uncertainty by meeting them where they are and giving them the tools to move forward with confidence.”
The Way Home is just one part of Dollar Bank's comprehensive effort to help would-be borrowers with credit-building needs. Attendees are encouraged to continue working with Dollar Bank counselors beyond attending the workshop. Lisa Saunders, Senior Community Development Specialist, works closely with participants in the Homeownership Program. “We understand that today’s journey to homeownership is filled with unknowns, but we’re here to help,” said Saunders. “Our workshop and program are designed to empower you to make informed decisions with long-term success.”
Hinton added, “Individuals gain access to information and resources, including private credit restoration counseling sessions, special savings programs and down payment assistance. The first step is showing up. We’ll walk with you from there.”
