Samuel Bailey, Jr.

Samuel Bailey, Jr. was one of five children born to Mary Graham Bailey and Samuel Bailey, Sr., an iron merchant. The Baileys lived in Allegheny City. Samuel Bailey, Jr. was particularly close to his sisters Emma, Ida and Mary (known as Mazie), all of whom remained in Pittsburgh their entire lives. Like his sisters, he was a devout member of First Presbyterian Church of Pittsburgh.

He joined Dollar Bank in November 1915 when he accepted the position of secretary. Elected president of Dollar Bank in 1927, he guided the institution through some of the worst financial crises of the Great Depression.
