Dress for success in your next interview

A job interview is a crucial opportunity to make a lasting impression on a potential employer. While your skills and qualifications are certainly important - your appearance plays a significant role in creating a positive impression. Dressing appropriately for the meeting will show your professionalism and attention to detail.

Here are some tips to help put your best foot forward in your interview:

  1. When dressing for the interview, consider your look from head to toe.
  2. Your outfit should align with the company’s dress code for the role you are applying for.
  3. Looking at the photos on company’s social media profiles may give insight into what employees wear to work each day.
  4. Your clothing should be neat, clean and comfortable. You don’t want to be distracted by something that doesn’t feel good because it is too big or too small.
  5. In terms of colors, it's okay to show your personal style, but your clothing should not be so bold that it is distracting to the interviewer. Make sure the person is interviewing you – not your shirt or blouse.
  6. Be conservative with accessories, make-up, perfume and cologne  as over-doing it in these categories can also be distracting.
  7. If you are shopping on a budget for your interview outfit, thrift stores, consignment shops and discount retailers are great options for affordable clothing.
